St. Vincent DePaul

This new Catholic church was constructed on an existing Parish campus located in Huntington Beach, California. The existing buildings are very contemporary and plain demanding that the new church command a separate identity, rooted in a more traditional form. The church is constructed of economical tilt-up concrete panels, providing a very permanent, maintenance-free wall system, while promoting a very stone-like appearance. Wood trusses and a wood ceiling soften the interior of the church. Colored art glass and special attention to the incorporation of religious art into the details of the building provide a spiritual setting.

The church is designed to seat 800 people, and has been efficiently planned to minimize the building area at 11,500 square feet. Hyndman & Hyndman served as liturgical designers in addition to serving as the architects.
