St. John the Evangelist School

Encinitas, CA

This K-8 school campus is designed to accommodate 500 students. The campus includes administrative space, a two story open media center/library, a kindergarten building, classroom buildings, and playing fields. The campus is split on two levels allowing the two story media center to open up on the upper level to the existing parish facilities, and on the lower level to the school campus. The two story media center building will be used by other Parish groups and serves as a transition from the larger scaled existing buildings to the smaller scaled school campus.

A bell tower serves to mark the entry for the campus as well as a secured point of entry and closure for the school lower level school campus. A curved trellis links the classroom buildings and frames the open air courtyard shared by all of the students and utilized as a lunch shelter.
