St. John Fisher

Rancho Palos Verdes, CA

This project is on an existing parish campus in Rancho Palos Verdes, California, and includes a new 900-seat Catholic church, a new administration building, a new preschool, a new library, and new school support areas for art, science and labs. The existing sanctuary was remodeled into a parish activity center with a gymnasium providing spaces for the youth ministry. The existing rectory was demolished to accommodate the new sanctuary and the old convent remodeled to accommodate an on-site rectory. Additional site improvements include a more efficient parking scheme, play areas contiguous with the school campus, and devotional gardens including a labyrinth and a columbarium.

The new sanctuary is designed to provide a dynamic statement on the corner of Crest and Crenshaw. Sweeping roof lines reminiscent of our walk of faith lead from the baptistery, over the altar, and ultimately up to the tallest point, culminating at the Blessed Sacrament Chapel Tower.

Hyndman & Hyndman provided architectural and interior design services including the liturgical furnishings designs. Ken Greisemer + Assoicates served as the liturgical consultant.
